The library board will meet again March 11 to finish work on the budget, but it appears now that the" board will be asking the county to increase its contribution to the library by more than $5,000.
“The supervisors committed in principle to supporting the budget,” Dr. Young said.
In July, 1989, the Board of Supervisors passed a resolution required for the library board’s application for a grant from the state for constructing the library that said the supervisors agreed “to provide all reasonable support for the increased costs of operation which the new facility will incur.”
The board decided to try to open the new library on Monday, July 1 but to delay the opening ceremony and reception until the building has been operating a while. The book sale on the Fourth of July will be held at the current library building, but the board hopes to have transportation to the new library so people who haven’t been in can see the new library that day.
Construction on the new building is due to be finished by May 1. Dr. Young said he believes that construction is only a couple of weeks behind schedule.
Board member Grace Sims said there may be a problem with getting the shelving in time for the move. She said she hopes to have two bids for shelving by later in the week so the board can order the shelving soon, but she said some suppliers say they need 90 days or more to meet an order.
