Racing moves to Rappahannock County this Saturday with the annual Rappahannock Steeplechase Point-toPoint at Thornton Hill Farm just east of Sperryville on U.S. 522.
Eight races are offered; five over fences and three flat (one being junior), and the order of go is different than as listed in the condition book.
The five jump-races this year are all over timber, and they include foxhunters at 12 noon followed by a conditional flat race (for non-winners under rules on the flat in 1989-91).
Maiden timber follows, with an open flat race next followed by ladies timber, a junior pony race, open timber and ownerrider timber.
Topeador, who finished second at Casanova, will try again in this last race, against Bay Cockbum’s Casanova winner Windsor (Eternally Irish) and with thirdplace finisher News Special and Will Russell.
OtheV owner-riders include Eben Sutton on Uncle Reg, Brian Fitzgerald on Dr. Brice, William Osier oh Midnight Moves, Stewart Marr on Material Pleasure, Henry Myers on Castle Corner and Douglas King on 500 Miles.
Gary Baker’s Eskimo Point, third at Casanova, is cross-entered in the open timber race against Joe Rogers’ Roses and Drums with John Bosley, Exuberant Speed with Greg Ryan and Palace Party with Michael Traurig.
Other runners include Beach Builder with Brooks Durkee, Cool Dave with R.P.S. Hannum and Our First Venture with R. Stephen Williams.
