Fourth of July planning

Once again the annual Fourth of July celebration will be held in Washington, Va. — but with an extra cost to the spectators.

For the first time in over 10 years of holding the event the town of Washington will charge visitors a fee of $2 to park. Local organizations and the Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department will provide specific parking lots at every entrance to the town.

The money collected will be divided between the Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department and the organizations that run the lots.

The whole day, beginning at 10 a.m., will be filled with activities such as craft displays and sales, foods prepared by local chefs, children's games, free concerts and the spectacular display of fireworks at dusk.

The event is sponsored by the Town of Washington and the fire department.

SHARE food distributed

Participants in the June SHARE food distribution should pick up their groceries from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. Saturday, June 22 at Washington Baptist Church.

Bring your volunteer voucher to turn in. Those interested in participating in July's SHARE distribution should sign up June 22.
