The final phase of the program was a two-day workshop feturing discussion and individual exercises on leadership styles, communication techniques, conflict management, meeting mechanics, and issues pertaining to decision making in the public sector.
“It takes a special person, one who is committed to public service, to go through a 10-week program that involves a great deal of evening and weekend study,” Mr. Chandler said. “Rappahannock County is fortunate to have such dedicated public officials.”
Harvard doctorate
awarded June 6
Margaret Ann Thomas, daughter of Betsy Trent Thomas of Castleton, was awarded a doctor of philosophy degree from Harvard University on June 6. Her subject and thesis were in linguistics.
Ms. Thomas, a graduate of George School in Newtown, Pa., received her undergraduate degree in Japanese from Yale University, and her master’s degree in education from Boston University.
She teaches at Boston College and resides with her husband, Dr. Dayton Haskin, in Arlington, Mass.
