Rain offers relief
from steamy June

The cool Tuesday showers that fell across most of Rappahannock were a welcomed sight to farmers, homeowners and those suffering from the heat of the past weekend.
Temperatures reached well into the 100 degree mark in Warrenton and Manassas as well as other Northern Virginia areas, but the cool mountain breeze of Rappahannock kept temperatures just under others’ record hot temperatures.
“I recorded a high of 92 degrees on Saturday and a high of 93 degrees on Sunday," said local Sperryville weather watcher Dennis Wingfield.
Mr. Wingfield’s records extend years into the past, with records for not only this area but other areas.
