When he graduated from seventh grade at Rappahannock Elementary last Wednesday, Mark Jenkins had not missed a day of school since starting kindergarten eight years ago.
For that accomplishment he received a banner created by Principal Bemie Chesshir on the office computer, among the awards presented by the school to students.
He was also recognized for setting a new school record for running the mile in the time of 5:44.
Rappahannock Elementary came in second in the state among schools that entered the National Language Arts Olympiad. Julie Bankston received a medal for the highest local score in that competition.
James Clark received a medal for the top local score in the National Science Olympiad, and William Eastham and Serena Waddell tied for the top local score in the National Social Studies Olympiad.
Julie Bankston, James Clark, William Eastham, Jesse Rogers and Sarah Wayland were recognized for their scores in the Virginia Mathematics League.
Jon Butler was recognized for setting a new boys’ school record of 80 sit ups and Sharee Dunagan for a new girls’ record of 75 sit ups.
