Calendars to be compiled

The 1991-92 school calendar sold by the RCES PTO as a fundraiser effort is currently being compiled. Any local businesses that want to advertise in the school calendar please contact Edie Clark at 675-3188 or Maggie Rogers at 987-9402. Deadline is July 1.

Farm Show catalogs available

Farm Show catalogs are now available at the Extension Office. Stop by and pick up a copy. The Farm Show will be held at Culpeper Agricultural Enterprises July 26-29. Deadline for entries is July 3.

Weaver reunion

The family descendants of Markwood L. and Alberta Fishback Weaver will meet for their family reunion at the Rappahannock Park near Washington Sunday, June 23. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish and lunch will be served around 1 p.m. All members and friends are invited for this time of fellowship.

Alzheimers support group

A new Alzheimer’s support group will hold its first meeting at 7:30p.m. Monday, June24.

The meeting will be held at the Washington Baptist Church and will discuss common concerns, feelings and the “how to’s” of daily living with Alzheimer’s or a related disease.

Benefit for Young family

A spaghetti dinner to benefit the Stephen Young family will be held 6 p.m.-8:30 p.m. June 21 at the Washington Volunteer Fire Department.

Single servings are $5, all you can eat is $7 and children 10 and under are $3.

The money raised will go toward Steve Young’s fight against leukemia. Donations are also welcome.

Soccer games

Pick up soccer games are held at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and 4 p.m. on Sundays at Rappahannock High field through the summer. For information call 987-9006.

Mothering Cooperative

This month’s mothers’ gathering will host guest speaker Helen Smith from the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service speaking on “Traditions and what they mean to your family.” Meet at the Rappahannock Park at 11:30 a.m. on June 20 for a potluck lunch. Mrs. Smith will speak at 12:30. Free to members and $2 donation requested firom non-members. For more information call 937-3110.

Fourth of July celebration

Great Meadow will host a powerful new 4th of July celebration this year with a special theme based on celebration of the Bicentennial of the American Bill of Rights.

After high praise for its spectacular fireworks display here last year, the 200-year-old French pyrotechnics designer Ruggieri has again been selected to stage the fireworks, including a special surprise re-creation from Operation Desert Storm.

A number of special events are planned, including national champion stunt pilot Earl Andrews, who will perform over Great Meadow in his 400-mph Pitt Special.

A jousting tournament, jugglers and strolling minstrels will entertain arrivals, together with relay and sack races for small children. Food services will be available. Gates open at 5 p.m. and fireworks will begin at dark.

Advance tickets will go on sale at area outlets in June. Watch the Fauquier Times-Democrat, sponsor of the event, for location of ticket outlets. Great Meadow is located between The Plains and Warrenton near 1-66, a short drive from Rappahannock County.

Class plans reunion

A meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. on June 23 at the Flint Hill fire hall to finalize plans for Rappahannock High class of 1981 10th year reunion. All interested alumni are encouraged to attend. For more information call Rhonda Foster Breeden at 703-825-5321.

Ole Hollow reunion

Families, friends and community members are invited to attend the annual Ole Hollow reunion at noon on Sunday, June 30 at Thornton’s Gap Regular Baptist Church near Sperryville. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish and a beverage. For more information call Ruby Dwyer at 987-8336.

Craft show planned

The Culpeper Extension Homemakers will hold their 20th Annual craft show on Saturday, Oct. 5. Since the show is held inside the Homemakers Building it will be held rain or shine from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Culpeper Ag. Enterprise grounds Rt. 29 S., Culpeper.
