WSA hears
good news
The Rappahannock Water and Sewer Authority heard a bit of good news at its monthly meeting last Thursday: halfway through its fiscal year the WSA is more than five percent below its operating budget.
The new dechlorinator, which is on-line following receipt of an operating permit from the State Water Control Board, will also come in 1015 percent under budget, according to Jimmy Swindler, WSA board member.
In other business, the WSA agreed to review its policy on billing businesses following a complaint by Maurice and Martha Lou O’Bannon, operators of That Sperryville Emporium and Parkway Gift Shop. The O’Bannons said that Parkway is billed more even though the Emporium gets much more use. That is apparently because the WSA is a non-metered system that bills on a complex formula. For businesses, part of that formula is building frontage, and Parkway is a long, thin structure. The WSA took no action but assured the O’Bannons that they would review the ordinance and possibly make a change.
WSA member Mark Bailey also suggested that the board provide a list of hazardous materials it has stored to local fire companies. Mr. Swindler said he would get with the plant operator to compile such a list.
