at the elementary school, music books for both schools, reduced class sizes at both schools and more halfyear electives at the high school.
She also asked for more telephone lines at both schools adding that this was a concern notedly 50 of the teachers, additional classroom space at the elementary school, and improved outdoor lighting at both schools.
She also asked that the School Board pick up the 5 percent contribution to the retirement system that the teachers currently pay, increase supplements for coaches and club sponsors, and add more funds for health insurance to bring benefits equal to those of other county employees.
Dr. Gangel told the board the school system would probably receive some additional funds for the
current budget. He said the school system should receive an additional $36,000 because of the enrollment increase and $9,000 as Rappahannock’s share of the $15 million Gov. Wilder released earlier this year.
On the other hand, the sales tax is running below the amount included in the budget by about $28,000. The net result should be about $17,000 additional, he said. He added that it would be sent to the county’s general fund to reimburse the county for the additional appropriation to pay for the above-ground fuel oil storage vault.
