On the bright side, J.C. Welch played well coming off and injury and two players promoted from the JVs, Paul Brown and Shawn Jordan, had solid games, said Coach Leake.
JVs win in overtime
The JV boys basketball team went back and forth with Manassas Park’s JV Jan. 10 before winning in overtime, 37-36. The game was close all the way, tied 15-15 at the half and 33-33 at the end of regulation.
For Rappahannock, the scoring was evenly distributed: Ray Atkins had nine and Raymond Williams,/Jason Settle and Shane Lambert each scored eight. '—
“The win did a lot for them,” said JV coach Tim Corder. “The more we win determines how well we play together.”
The JV Panthers had less luck against Brentsville and Stonewall Jackson-Mount Jackson this week, losing to both district opponents.
The Brentsville game was still within two points in the third quarter before the Tigers pulled it out, 48-42. Coach Corder had installed a new pick-and-roll offense, and the team was somewhat unfamiliar with it, he said. Lambert led in points with 15 and rebounds with seven. Settle was also in double-figures, with 10; Andre Fletcher had seven, Williams six and Atkins four.
