The board also heard from Helen LaCava, speaking for the teachers. She said that 57 of the 73 teachers in the system are members of the Rappahannock County Education Association. She first asked the board to support a resolution asking Gov. Wilder to give full support to the state board's budget request. The resolution also states that the 199092 budget “fails to provide adequate assistance’’ to public schools and that “our students, employees, and program of instruction have suffered and will continue to suffer the consequences of inadequate resources unless state funding improves drastically for 1992-94.”
Mrs. LaCava said the Virginia Education Association was asking all school boards to support such resolutions. Hampton District representative Bryant Lee made a motion to ' support the resolution, which passed unanimously.
Mrs. LaCava also passed along recommendations from the teachers asking that the next budget include funds to hire an aide for the high school library and more aides for the elementary school, additional books for implementing “whole language”
