The Rappahannock High varsity basketball team lost a high-scoring contest to district foe Stonewall Jackson-Mount Jackson Tuesday night, 67-60. The Panthers mounted a late rally after trailing much of the game, but ran out of time.
Coach Gary Leake used the entire bench in keeping a ftill-court press going most of the game, but turnovers, unforced errors and lackluster rebounding was Rappahannock’s downfall.
The loss put the team’s record at 1-2 for the week, 1-6 in the Bull Run District and 2-10 overall.
Rappahannock blew out Brentsville at home Jan. 7, 73-43, in the team’s second win of the season. Kevin Jolliffe had what Coach Leake termed “a career day,” scoring 23 points, grabbing six rebounds and making five steals. “It’s not surprising for Kevin to have 23 points. It was one of those nights where everything went right for him,” said Coach Leake.
