Author Ray Scherer kept a standing-room-only crowd enthralled for over an hour at a talk on the influence of television on the American political process, especially electoral politics, at the library last Friday evening.
Mr. Scherer, co-author with Robert Donovan of “Unsilent Revolution: Television News and American Public Life,” traced the evolution of the role of television in Presidential elections from 1940 through 1992.
In 1940, Mr. Scherer said, television was present at both political conventions, but there were only a few experimental television sets in the country.
