by Humperdink with words that said “Freedom is just another way of saying there is nothing left to lose.” I then decided to have a record breaking meditation event.
My uncle Ralph had an old log cabin in the sawtooth mountains of Idaho. I had many happy memories of vacations with my siblings there. I asked my uncle if I could borrow the cabin for a month. He quickly agreed and explained that it hadn’t been used for many years, I would have to put up the chimney and take out supporting poles that held the roof up under winter snow loads.
This seemed exciting to me. I bought groceries, fishing supplies and heavy reading on Western philosopy. The cabin was located II miles from a small town called Ketchum. There was still some snow on the ground and it was quite chilly when I arrived late in the evening.
I took out the poles, put up the chimney, started the fire, and stored the groceries. I then decided that I would start my lonely vigil the next day. I drove back to Ketchum and had a good last meal at a decent restaurant.
That night the bed seemed cold and uncomfortable, the noise of the river finally put me to sleep. I woke early, it was cold. I tried a hand at fishing without success. It was time to start breakfast. I was seized by inspiration and I put back the poles, took down the chimney, packed the groceries into the car and went back to the comfort of my mothers house.
This was my only experience with serious meditation.
