to county
At their end-of-the-year meeting, School Board members learned they will be able to return about $53,400 to the county’s general fund.
Early in the year the county agreed to pay for the above ground fuel oil storage tank at the elementary school. The School Board had originally planned to enter into a lease-purchase agreement for the tank that would pay for it over a four-year period.
.However, negotiations for a contract did not work out, and Superintendent David Gangel asked the Board of Supervisors for permission to purchase the tank outright. The supervisors agreed, saying they hoped the school system would find the money to reimburse the county.
The ftiel oil tank enclosed in a concrete .vault cost $40,900. About $12,500 represents additional savings from the school budget.
The board also learned that the cafeteria fund lost approximately $1,450. The elementary school cafeteria made about $7,150, but the high school cafeteria lost about $8,600. Funds were moved from instruction to school foods to cover this loss. Dr. Gangel said he would probably recommend that lunch prices at the high school be raised for the coming year.
The board accepted Sherry Estep’s resignation as part-time speech therapist. Kirk Halgren was appointed director of the RJR Nabisco computer project. There are now two openings left for the coming year, a part-time speech therapist and a third grade teacher.
