Supervisor Hubert Gilkey
and former county engineer Fanning Baumgardner, the special jail study committee appointed by the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors, met with an architect and Sheriff W. A. Buntin last Friday to look over plans for expanding the county’s jail facilities. Architect Hunter Spencer of Culpeper presented two proposals as outlined in conceptual drawings: one for an addition to the rear of the existing jail building and a second for renovation of the structure with elimination of the jailer’s current living quarters. The committee selected the second option and Spencer will take the plans to Richmond this week for review and comment from the State Department of Corrections, according to Baumgardner.
