Virginia State Troopers charged two motorist* with driving after being declared a habitual offender after separate traffic stops last week.
On June 23, Trooper S.M. Knick stopped Larry Ramey, 42, of Front Royal, for a violation in connection with the load on his 1979 Ford truck. Knick reported that when he checked Ramey’s driver’s license through the Department of Motor Vehicles, his habitual offender status was revealed.
Trooper G.T. Settle stopped a 1973 Chevrolet van June 27 on U.S. 211, at the intersection of Route 613, for suspicion of driving under the influence. After administering field sobriety tests, Settle arrested Russell Martin, 36, of Amissville, for DUI. A check of Martin’s status through DMV revealed his license had been revoked as a habitual offender, and Settle charged him with that offense as well.
If convicted, both Martin and Ramey face a mandatory prison
