I like the sound of the word, meditation. It even now has a good feel to it. At different times in my life it has meant different things.
First, it is a good excuse for not doing anything. Then it was my thought process when I was about to get caught. “Get me out of this and I promise never to do it again.” Then it would be the thought process after I was caught. “Why me?”
At one time in my life meditation consisted of a bottle of vodka and a record of Tennessee Ernie Ford singing “I don’t want to hurt anymore” over and over again, into the night.
There are people that would meditate by going into an empty cathedral and acquire peace of mind in silence. Others would kneel in the pew and say prayers. It is not meditation if one prays for something other than peace of mind, at least as I now understand it.
There are group therapy sessions (for profit) that teaches meditation. It consists of the senior meditators insulting and brow beating the juniors until they cry and theoretically have a complete collapse of ego. Realizing that they are but a speck of nothing; a new human being can be reconstructed. One that does not depend upon the opinion of others to find themselves acceptable. This method sometimes works; - and sometimes it doesn’t!
