We have, for example, a United States Senator under the threat of federal indictment for an alleged cover-up of an illegal tape recording made of Virginia’s Governor, a fellow Democrat.
We have the first black governor of any state in modem times, a man who mounted a presidential campaign this year and has engaged in an alleged relationship with a former model who is the estranged wife of one of the world’s wealthiest men.
We have another United States Senator who is well-known to Americans through frequent television appearances and who might be one of the most recognizable public figures in the nation.
I’m probably envious that young reporters covering the Capitol today have a veritable smorgasbord of political news to report, much much more than was the case when I was coming along, though Henry Howell’s campaigns were always fun.
Lots of news, as I said. Possibly even enough for someone to consider putting out one of those sensational tabloids. Maybe we could call it “The Old Dominion Enquirer.”
