Herman Thomas
The Rev. Herman Thomas, 89, of Strasburg, died Sunday, June 28 at the Shenandoah County Memorial Hospital in Woodstock.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, July 2 at the Esbie Baptist Church in Strasburg by the Rev. Ronald C. Williams. Burial will be in Amissville Baptist Church Cemetery.
The Rev. Thoms was born July 6, 1902, in Culpeper County, the son of the late Dangerfield and Virginia Jones Thoms. He was a retired plumber’s helper in Arlington and had worked many years on the Clark Richard farm in Strasburg. He was an ordained Baptist minister and had retired from the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in White Post.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Peyton Thoms; a daughter, Lilly Willis of Strasburg; a sister, Lillie Jones of Baltimore, Md.; two brothers, Emanuel Thoms of New York City, N.Y. and Daniel Thoms of Alexandria; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Correction
In the obituary of Helen Campbell that appeared in the June 25, 1992 issue, Mrs. Campbell’s son is Charles Lloyd Campbell and she is survived by 11 great-grandchildren.
