Sen. Miller said that a meeting ih Rockingham County earlier in the week had been packed and that h$ had heard first from library supporters. »
Ed Barton, President of th£i Friends of the Rappahannock Library, pointed out that the new IK brary was completely paid for. He said the facility offers programs for people with visual problems in large print* books and books on tape. He sak^many people living on small incomes use the library.
He said that high school students use the library for research and that there is a literacy program in place; “The percentage of people in the county using the library is phenomenal,” he added.
“It hurts to have somebody sajr libraries are not an important use of tax money,” he said. “I would like te be able to tell them our senator does support us,” he said.
Sen. Miller said he would support increased funds for the library.
Mr. Allen said, “Hopefully, we can do more this year.” He offered those in attendance the opportunity to fill out a form to let Sen. Robb know of their concerns for the coming session. ^
He asked the small group present what they would think of a system to replace county stickers for cars with a fee collected automatically with registrations by the state and returned to the county.
