Delegate Jerry M. Wood began his fund-raising for the 1993 election with a reception at Oasis Vineyards Friday evening, Jan. 8:
More than 135 people from the neighboring counties braved the rain and threatening forecast to join the delegate at Dirgham and Corinne Salahi’s Vineyard in Hume.
Speaking to the crowd, Delegate Wood thanked the hosts and the many sponsors of the event and said, “We will be very busy this year, doing eight weeks of work in a sixweek session, but I enjoy being your delegate and thank you for allowing me to represent you.”
Discussion during the evening revolved around specific legislation concerns, and the promising possibility of a stop in Warrenton by President-elect Clinton. Delegate Wood has met with members of the Transition Team who have adjusted the announced schedule and are now expected to include a Warrenton stop in the bus trip to Washington, D.C. on Jan. 17.
Delegate Wood’s staff reports that more than $5,700 was raised from 165 contributors including 29 sponsors. Contributions came from Goldvein to Front Royal indicating broad-based support throught-out the 31st District. “We planned this as a small reception to raise initial funds, but the response was overwhelming!”, said treasurer Dudley Payne.
