Movie this weekend
“A Few Good Men” starring Tom ' Cruise, Jack Nicholson, Demi Moore and Kevin Bacon will be the movie at The Theatre in Washington at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 16. Young navy lawyer, Cruise, is ordered to defend two marines who have accidentally killed a comrade. Two issues are at stake; the reputation of the defendants’ commanding officer, Nicholson, and the moral turpitude of Cruise’s beautifully old fashioned sense of build-up and release, and earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. Directed by Rob Reiner, this movie is rated R.
Program plans underway
The Fourth of July program for the afternoon of the 4th is being planned. If you have an appropriate presentation for this program, please contact Ellen Manson at 675-1349. At this time the program includes: Patriotic Reading, Patriotic and American songs/group sing along, Colonial Dancing, music by Ann Carroll of Williamsburg, and two concerts by Paul Reisler and Martha Sandefer of “Trapezoid.”
Blossoms at gallery
During the month of May, Valerie Jean Knight will be exhibiting drawings ; and watercolors in a one-person show : _ entitled “The View from Westwood” at -'. Middle Street Gallery in Washington. Knight is a resident of Front Royal and an : executive member of the Artist-run non■ profit gallery. The exhibition focuses on apples, apple blossoms, apple orchards •; and those who work them. This month also marks the opening of Middle Street Gallery’s new sales gallery where member artists have a wide range of oneof-a-kind smaller works. The sales gallery will be open during the summer months. Middle Street Gallery hours are 11 to 6 Friday and Sunday. Call 675-3440 for information.
String Quartet to Play
The Potomac String Quartet, a group of young musicians, will perform a concert of chamber music at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 16 at The Theatre at Washington, Va.
