However on Friday at Clarke County Deitrich Beaver pitched the whole game and the Rappahannock squad won 16 to 6. The Rappahannock team got 13 hits including three each by Laura McNear and Susan Payne.
At home Monday the softball team beat the George Mason Mustangs by a score of 21 to 6. Deitrich Beaver started and then Susan Payne came on in relief in the fourth inning. Lori Paratore got two home runs and Cari Kerr hit one. The squad now has two wins to three losses in district competition and four wins to three losses overall.
Coach Renee Leake feels her team is unstoppable if she can get her pitchers to stop giving up walks. “Our fielding is so good, we can handle almost anything they hit,” she said.
District tournament competition will begin for both baseball and softball May 21. The teams won’t know whether they get to host those games or play away until after district competition ends next Monday. Semifinal and final games in the tournament will be played May 24 and 26 at Sandy Hook Elementary in Strasburg.
For the soccer team last week’s competition was not as satisfying. The team hosted a return match against Randolph Macon Academy. Rappahannock got the first goal and went into the halftime leading 1 to 0. However, the RMA team scored about half way through the second half and got another goal on a penalty kick shortly after to end up with a 2 to 1 victory.
