SMS our choice for our children’s early education.
SMS has been creating itself for four years out of the hearts and minds of concerned adults from the ground up. This creation is a labor in many ways, as is any creative participatory act. It continues to labor toward what is good for the children, and toward what is possible considering the realities of size, dollars, needs of the children, and human fallibility.
By appointment, it is possible to observe the teaching that is taking place there.
It is my hope that SMS survives its labor pains and that it can blossom through its compassionate, tolerant, and nurturing curriculum. To end, I want to share the closing verse that my son Arlen recited with his first grade class and teacher at the end of each day:
“0 wonder at Beauty, stand guard over Truth, Look up to the Noble, Resolve on the Good. This leadeth people truly to purpose in living, to right in their actions, to peace in their hearts, to light in their thinking and teaches them trust in the workings of God, in all that there is, in the width of the world and in the depths of the soul. Go with love, may joyful blessings speed you safely on your way.”

An Ode to
the President
To the Editor: Here is a new “Psalm” that I thought your readers would like to see.
From The First Book of Democrats, Psalm 1992-1996:
1- Bill Clinton is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2- He leadeth me beside the still factory; he restoreth my faith in the Republican Party.
3- He guideth me in the path of unemployment.
4- Yea, though I walk through the valley of the breadlike, I shall not go hungry.
5- Clinton hath anointed my income with taxes; my expense runneth over my income.
6- Surely poverty and hardship will follow me all the days of my life, and the Democrats and I will live in a rented house forever.
