Council is about $100 per year. The cost of registration is $7.80 per year, which includes insurance. The largets portion of the cost is raised through the Friends of Scouting Campaign and through the support of local United Way Agencies.
Rappahannock County’s Scouting program continues to grow in 1993. Scout Troop 50 in Amissville is ready to recharter with the support of the Ruritan as their sponsor and Bill Johnson as the new Scoutmaster. The Ruritan was the sponsor of Troop 50 for over 25 years until last year when boys available to join were not found at recharter time.
Rappahannock County and the Scouting community welcome back the Ruritan and the Scouts of Troop 50 in Amissville. Pack 50 at the Amissville United Methodist Church with Cubmaster Bob Wildman, and Pack 123 at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Washington with Cubmaster Jimmy Joback, continue to grow and provide a super program for Cub Scout aged boys in the second-to-fifth grades.
Paul Nichols, the longest active Scouter in the county, continues to serve as the scoutmaster of Troop 36 in Flint Hill, chartered by the Volunteer Fire Department. By years end the Scouting program hopes to entend itself to more young people in the county by offering an Explorer’s Program and possibly a Troop and Pack in the Sperryvijle area.
“Those who have faithfully supported the Scouting Program in the year’s past or currently in Rappahan nock County have my sincere appreciation,” said Richard H. Van Norton, Jr., District Executive of the Shenandoah Council.
“For the help in learning about the county and its people, my appreciation goes to Judge and Mrs! Raynor Snead who shared their time and hospitality with me,” added Norton. “To the adult volunteers without whom Scouting couldn’t exist here or anyw here for kids who desperately need an alternative to Nintendo (although they don’t know it), my deepest thanks for your time, efforts, and enthusiasm.”
Norton also gave thanks to “Marion and Bill Sharp for so graciousl^taking on the burden of raising money for the Scouting program in Rappahannock County and raising the awareness of everyone about the most current affairs of Scouting.
