The Board of Supervisors approved the $5.4 million school budget for next year with no changes at their meeting earlier this month. The motion to approve the budget was made by Chairman Hubert Gilkey, seconded by Jackson District representative Ellis Bingham, and passed 4 to 1 with Piedmont District representative Charles K. “Pete” Estes voting “no.”
Mr. Estes said he did not have a problem with the school budget generally but he favors building a separate school rather than an addition to the elementary school. He said he voted against the school budget because funds to begin the addition are included in it.
