The community was shocked and saddened at the deaths of Mrs. Dorothy Dodson on Saturday evening. She died of a sudden heart attack while visiting with family and friends at the home of her daughter, Gloria Switzer.
She raised a fine family of seven children, had 20 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Most of her family are known for their volunteer activities in the community.
Her funeral was held Monday at Gourdvine Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Amissville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department at P.O. Box 147, Amissville 22002.
In Ruritan news, the Senior Citizens dinner will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18 at Amissville Baptist.
Also on Nov. 18, the Ruritans will give away a Marlin rifle. Raffle tickets are $1. See a member or call Roger Cordani, 937-5739.
The Amissville Volunteer Fire Department will host a dance on Saturday, Nov. 20. The dance begins at 8 p.m. Live music will be provided by the Royal Tones.
Stop by Hackley’s Store to see the 3.28 pound turnip grown by Mr. Levi Atkins. He says “I didn’t do it alone, Me and the Lord grew it!” He’s noted for his unusual vegetables - very large and unusual shapes. He can be seen often in the parking lot of of Hackley’s Store
