This week everyone with a 6t£ telephone number should have ceived a letter from the State Corporation Commission (SCC). asking if we would be willing to pay an ex*tra amount to make local calls to Cul> peper phone number 937, 547, 825| etc. which in Rappahannock Countjr includes Rock Mills, Castletong Amissville, Viewtown, Laurel Mills* and the Boston area. £
The petition many people signet^ to begin this process w as mailed by me to the SCC in Richmond during! May and they acknowledge receipt;: within days. Centel was then given’ three months to do a cost study t<j come up with a dollar amount. They* took more than five months. Some' thing about Centel being merged!! with Sprint and the engineering def partment being moved out of Vir* ginia to North Carolina. ?
Now, the 675 customers have 6<j days to respond. But the person £ deal with at the SCC has told me i£ there is a fast and big enough response they need not wait 60 days tal! tell C & P to do a three month cost study for their end of the proposal. *
For the SCC to give the go ahea* to C & P they need 51 percent of th£ 675 customers to respond and 5C£ percent to vote yes. Please keep thiij process moving forward by voting; yes and sending it in now. *
I was glad to see the RappahanZ nock Niw>s take an interest in th# unusual and unacceptable phone sitj uation we have in this county. *
If everyone keeps supporting whatever various attempts it takes* I truly believe this situation can b£ corrected. »
Maybe someday even the current and future politicians in the county and town will join in to help out. 2
