Mary Christina Kilby, daughter of John and Julie Music LeKander, achieved her Airline Transport Pilot Rating (A.T.P.) last week on Thursday, Nov. 12. This rating requires at least 1500 hours of flight time as Pilot in Command and also involves ar; extensive written examination based on the Boeing 727.
The A.T.P. represents aviation’s highest level of advancement in terms of F.A.A. ratings and licenses. Mary is also a F.A.A. Certified Flight Instructor, licensed to give both primary and instrument instruction, as well as multi-engine training.
In was July 1989 when Mary’s stepfather, John LeKander, acting as her flight instructor, sent her on her first solo. As she progressed to instrument flight, Mary’s mother, who holds a commercial pilots’ license, assisted her as a safety pilot. Most recently, Mary’s husband, Roger, a first officer of Northeast Express, provided the training for her latest flight test.
Mary’s commitment to aviation and her fortitude in meeting the requirements of her ratings allowed her to obtain her final license in nearly record time. With this accomplishment, Mary has met the F.A. A. requirements to act as Pilot-in-Com
