System
To the Editor:
For those frustrated by the initial public demonstration of the library computer system, let me urge, “Try it; you’ll like it.”
For most users it will operate easily - like to present card system: punch in an author and you’ll find a list of his books and whether they are on our shelves. Later it will tell in what other library they are available so they can be sought through inter-library loan; punch in a title, and find the author. For more complicated searches, such as specific or general topics, one will have to practice and learn, as with any software project.
The library’s computer program or a similar one is in use successfully in libraries all over the county. It just takes some getting used to; and in the long run will become popular with borrowers and staff alike. Ask the students and staff at our high school, whose library has been computerized for several years.
