Renewed rivalries and rolling mountain views will punctuate the Rappahannock Huht Point-to-Point races this Saturday, with more than enough of both on tap for the annual event.
With post time set at noon, a full program of eight timber and flat races are scheduled on the mountainous course. Thornton Hill Farm in Sperryville is considered by spectators and horsemen alike as one of the most picturesque venues on the 18-race spring 'chasing schedule. Railside parking and infield picnic revelers alike are ensured a compelling view of the 3/4-mile, figure-eight course.
The owner-rider, ladies’ and foxhunter’s series events over timber are expected to be command performances by those who competed at Casanova last Saturday.
In the 2 1/2-mile race for owner-riders over timber, Henry Wood and his Bijg Nado will go for two wins from two starts in two weeks.
Winner by default at Casanova, when a loose horse interfered With dead-certain winner Lone Star Lester and Bay Cockburn, Big Nado is a former winning hurdler who was converted to timber just this spring to fill the shoes of Mr. Wood’s recently retired timber star Topeador, who won the Rappahannock race six times in his long career.
