Dieter Knuepfer reported that VDOT has adopted snow removal policies for .snows of more than 10 inches that accord with suggestions of the supervisors. Roads to fire stations, schools, the Sheriff’s Office, Rappahannock Medical Center and power substations will be plowed once primary routes are cleared. VDOT will also plow out routes across the county from Route 729 to 618 to 626 and from 626 to 622 to 211.
He said a map will be printed showing those areas to be cleared and where equipment is located with a more detailed follow up “in time for the next snow season.”
He said it will also be necessary to provide a “crew rest facility,” and the high school had agreed to put up road crews and provide, them with hot showers and food. He said the county should purchase 30 cots with mattress pads and 60 blankets which could be stored at the Sperryville or Flint Hill fire halls.
The board approved paying operating costs of the fire departments approved by the Fire and Rescue Advisory Board.
