RICHMOND — Rappahannock County taxpayers soon may be forced to spend more money on education or cut some school services.
Gov. George Allen’s proposed budget for the next biennium showed a decrease in state funding for the county’s educational system because of the recalculated composite index. This means Rappahannock County taxpayers would have to make up the difference.
“Either the county helps us out or we cut some educational programs, said David Gangel, superintendent of county schools. “There’s teally no other choice.”
The issue at hand is whether the General Assembly will replace some of the funds lost since the last biennium. The two chambers are scheduled to hammer out a unified version of the budget .before the assembly adjourns
