They also approved contracts for leachate hauling and gravel for the landfill. They approved Mr. McCarthy’s suggestion that he develop a request for proposals for operating the landfill after July 1.
Mr.. McCarthy said he and Commissioner of Revenue Beverly Atkins will bring suggestions on how large homes could be assessed for more in the next general assessment. He said several counties to the east have a way to assess very large homes, those in excess of 5,000 square feet, differently from the usual square foot assessment.
Jackson District representative Ron Frazier said, “We’re being hit hard by the composite index. We should make some of the houses that are causing this problem pay-up.”
Board members appointed Bill Terrell to the Fire and Rescue Advisory Board and Aaron Roberts to the Social Services Board.
During the evening session the board approved a special exception for a subdivision on Battle Mountain. The conditiona attached were similar to ones imposed by the Planning Commission, but only for the two larger lots will the planners have to approve new house locations. They also approved amendments to the subdivision ordinance requiring hydrological testing for water supplies in certain subdivisions.’
