Thanks to dedicated dog lovers and Petsmart, the Rappahannock Animal Welfare League is able to find homes for nearly 100 percent of their shelter and foster care dogs.
Every Saturday or Sunday a group from RAWL loads up their van with dogs who needs homes and head in to the Petsmart store at Fair Lakes Mall in Fairfax. Last Saturday, RAWL president Lisa Reid and shelter manager Mary Lou Walters, along with several other helpers, took 13 dogs to Petsmart. Seven of them were adopted, and that was a successful day. According to Ms. Reid, RAWL adopted out 306 dogs last year, almost all of them at Petsmart.
The dogs to be adopted were an exceptional bunch, very well behaved and ready to love and be loved.. After each new owner filled out their adoption papers, which included all medical and other pertinent information about their new dog, they would pose, wearing big smiles, with their new pet for a Polaroid photo to go in RAWL’s photo album of all adopted pets and their new families.
