Sheriff Gary Settle reported that scam artists are working in the Warrenton area and warned Rappahannock residents not to fall for their tricks.
The group of men offer to paint a house or bam and ask for a down payment. They take the money and do not return.
Sheriff Settle said they have been seen driving a red stake body truck, a blue and grey late model Dodge truck and a white Camaro. All the vehicles have South Carolina license plates, he said.
State Police reported three traffic accidents in the county last week.
Last Wednesday about 6:40 p.m., Charles Putnam, 36, of Amissville, was driving a 1984 Chevy pickup on Route 637, one mile north of Route 645, when he ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, and ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree. According to Trooper Wayne Sumner, Mr. Putnam did receive some injuries. The truck had $2,000 damage, and Mr. Putnam was charged by Trooper Mike Woodard with reckless driving.
