The SAT II Writing Test scores are the ones that Ms. Lofton should have researched, and if she had done so, she would have found that out of the 28 students who took the writing SAT IIs, only five scored above the national average of 568. These statistics definitely support Jim’s observation that the English curriculum is lacking.
In closing, I would like to say that the pressure Jim and Ms. Lofton received from the English department was uncalled for. The information was neither slanderous nor libelous, and the first amendment guarantees freedom of speech and freedom of press. It is my desire that in the future the expression of one’s opinions will be encouraged rather than reprimanded.

I read with interest your sports section last week. The emphasis of the article seemed to be on final scores and the competitiveness of Rappahannock teams.
I’ve helped coach U-6 soccer the past two fall seasons and am in my second year as a T-ball coach with RAA. The U-6 soccer team is fairly small and we scrimmage amongst ourselves. We try to keep the sides even and the score tied if we keep score.
