At about 4:30, the group was getting ready to pack up and return to Rappahannock, but so many people were still coming in the store to look at dogs that several were retrieved from the van and brought back in. Three more were adopted within the last halt hour.

Ms. Reid said that Rappahannock County has more dogs than people know what to do with. Taking them to Petsmart, which was the brainchild of Ms. Reid and Donna Landry three years ago, has been the perfect solution for finding the dogs homes. People in the Fairfax area don’t even flinch at the $125 adoption fee which is chaiged for each dog. That price gets a dog that is neutered, has had DHLPP and rabies shots, has been heartworm tested, wormed, and groomed if necessary. It could easily cost more than $125 to have all of that done at the vet’s office.

“Whatever they need medically is done before they are adopted,” said Ms. Walters. Dr. Johnny Clark of Luray is the shelter’s veterinarian.

Dogs .are guaranteed too. An adopted dog can be brought back to RAWL within 30 days for a full refund
