He added that while Sen. Warner is “basically conservative, he tempers that with a concern for all.”

Rep. Davis readily admits that his job as campaign chairman was not sought after by many fellow Republicans. “There were a lot of people heading for the hills,” he said.

“But I don’t sit on the sidelines,” he said, explaining his support for the senator. “Warner’s the epitome of what a U.S. senator ought to be. He puts the state and community above the party.
