We’re discouraging long trips and truck traffic but not banning it. I don’t think we can continue this auto dependent life style.”

But if Republican presidential hopeful Bob Dole is concerned about the Perot party, he hasn’t taken it out on Sen. Warner. Sen. Dole endorsed Sen. Warner at a campaign stop in Falls Church several weeks ago.

But Sen. Dole’s endorsement is not enough for some staunch party loyalists.

“Anger is a strong motivator in politics, and there’re a lot of angry Republicans out there right now,” Mr. ’ Rozell said.
