As many as eight million dogs and cats are euthanized each year in the United States, according to statistics from the Prevent a Litter Coalition. That figure add$ up to about 90 percent of the animals that end up in ani-1 mal shelters, said Northen Virginia PaLC’s Ann Plamondon.

“There is a river of animals and we need to stop the flow,” she said.

Ms. Plamondon was in Rappahannock County to visit the animal shelter on Saturday in order to promote her new campaign ‘Animal Friendly’ license plates. The plates feature a dog and a cat and allow for up to six letters and/or numbers -and
