to inform the Virginia Department of Transportation state and district officials of transportation needs and priorities in their communities.
At this meeting, consideration is only given to interstate, primary and urban highway systems in the district, which includes Albemarle, Culpeper, Fauquier, Fluvanna, Green, Louisa, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock counties. Secondary road systems (road numbered 600 and above) are considered in separate hearings held annually by the county board of supervisors and VDOT resident engineers.
Speakers will have the opportunity to address members of the Commonwealth Transportation Board who will be deciding among the many competing projects. Comments on rail, bicycle and pedestrian needs as well as the Transportation Enhancement and safety programs will also be received.
A preallocation hearing is held every year in each of Virginia’s nine transportation districts. Date obtained during the meetings is used to update and prepare the annual Six-Year Improvement Program. The program identifies funds anticipated to be available for interstate, primary and urban highway construction, ports, airports and mass transit for the new fiscal year, it also projects funding plans for the next five fiscal years.
