A chimney fire caused by creosote build-up on a chimney cap was successfully extinguished last Wednesday by firefighters from Amissville and Washington. - *
Elfie Schmidt, who lives on Route 669 in Amissville, called 911 when she noticed that the stovepipe thermometer on her woodstove registered in the red (danger) zone. Luckily, quick work by firefighters put out the fire after extensive cleaning of the chimney using heavy chains.
