A Track Is Needed With the onset of spring sports it again becomes apparent that Rappahannock needs a new track facility at the high school. Every year the issue is rehashed and every year all agree a track is needed, is necessary for the athletes, but as yet nothing has been done to actually get the ball rolling. Rappahannock can not train hurdlers because they have no where to train. They fall behind other schools in the district in track competition due to the lack of facilities which would enable them to properly train. They cannot hold a track meet here. This is an injustice to all the young athletes and more so to those with real potential.

The Athletic Boosters are looking into raising funds for a track. If they decide to do so their efforts are to be applauded. Something needs to be, must be, done. Why not make 1997 the year it gets done?

Support Spring Sports Speaking of sports, it’s spring and that means baseball, softball, soccer and track will be gearing up. Remember to get out and support the teams in their efforts. There are now seven spring sports teams — two baseball, two softball, two soccer and one track team. These athletes deserve encouragement. They work hard, put in many long hours and some get little glory for doing so. Go see them compete. Athletes in general always seem to excel when they have people they care about or their friends there cheering them on.

Be Animal Friendly If you haven’t teard about the Animal Friendly license plates now available take time to find out about them. They are a wonderful way to help counter a real and growing problem which affects us all. No one likes to think about innocent animals who loose their Jives daily due to over population. No one wants to think about truck loads of frozen dead bodies being shipped out from shelters on hazardous waste trucks. - But, think of them we must if the situation is ever to be corrected.

While Rappahannock’s Shelter does a better job than most in finding homes for stray animals, they still need help. The new license plates are one way to do just that and there are others. To find out more about how you can help call the local shelter, or better yet simply get yourself a new license plate.
