The atmosphere hushed, tense, excitement crackled like electricity in the air. Everyone spoke in subdued whispers, as if by speaking in a normal tone of voice they would affect the outcome of what was to take place.
The students, those who were the participants, stood in groups and waited expectantly with eager faces. They appeared unnaturally calm — a symptom of the tight control they were keeping on their emotions.
It was the Region B Forensics Competition and the rivalry to come out on top was evident in the smiles that didn’t quite reach the eyes of the competitors as they watched each other compete.
