Elizabeth Tole
Elizabeth "Liz" Clem Tole, 82, of Woodville died unexpectedly Sunday, March 9 at her residence.
She was bom on New Year’s Day, 1915 in Washington, D.C. the only child of Bertha Huth Elm and Roy Clem. The Huth family had lived on “C” street NE on Capital Hill since just after the Civil War while the Clems were an equally long-standing clan of Woodstock. She was thus a truly native Washingtonian.
She had been widowed for 50 years from her husband, William John Tole, a former IRS worker, originally of the Bronx, NY. She is survived by her only son, John Roy Tole, of Woodville, and two grandchildren, Jeremy William Tole, of Charlottesville and Woodville and Johanna Margaret Tole of Woodville.
Her family was among the charter members of the Reformation Lutheran Church of Capital Hill, where she was a member until the 1960’s.
She worked for 30 years in the Securities Dept, of the American Security and Trust Company at 15th
