Nancie Gallegos is an energetic 17-year-old who is working on the “Katzen for Lieutenant Governor” campaign.
She began working as assistant to the campaign manager two weeks ago after volunteering for a period of time. When school lets out each weekday (she is a senior at Rappahannock County High School), she heads to campaign headquarters on Second Street in Warrenton, and works until 7:30 or 8 p.m., and most Saturdays.
She found out about the job at a gathering at North Wales, where she met the volunteer coordinator. “When there was an opening, I just jumped for it,” said Nancie.
Her job so far has been to tally up all the petitions that have been returned. To be on the safe side, said Nancie, 24,000 signatures are needed to get Del. Katzen on the ticket. The deadline for all petitions to be in is the end of March, and she has been calling petition holders and asking them to get them back in.
“As we change phases, I will change what I am in charge of,” said Nancie. Besides working on the petitions, Nancie attends Republican meetings with Del. Katzen, mostly in the Fairfax and
