But that may not be enough to get Charles what he needs. Donor hearts must match for blood type and body size. Virginia law also mandates that the family of any potential donor be asked about donation. And, even if the potential dbnor has a signed document, the next-of-kin must give consent to the recovery.
“Everyone at the hospital has been wonderful and the medications he’s getting have maintained him,” Ruth said. Mr. Embrey has less than 16 percent of his heart now functioning.
Ruth said the support they’ve received in cards, notes and donations has been inspiring.
“The people in Rappahannock have been wonderful, we’ve gotten so much support. We had a great fundraiser at the Ben Venue races and so many people have responded.
