John Combs
John Daniel Combs, 82, a long-time resident of Warrenton, died on April 20, at the home of his daughter in Roanoke.
He was bom April 17, 1915, in Washington, Va., the son of the late Frederick Paul and Mamie Dutton Combs.
A veteran of World War n, he served in the Army Air Corps as an aviation instrumentation specialist.
After his tour of duty, he relocated to Warrenton, where he worked as a master electrician for Walter Chrysler at North Wales.
He then became a licensed electrical contractor and later was employed by the federal government at Warrenton Training Center.
He retired from the Training Center in 1979 as Maintenance Superintendent.
Throughout his life he was also active in his community and church.
He was a member of the Marshall Chapter#101, Order of the Eastern Star, and in May, 1996 became a fifty-year member of the Masonic Fraternity, as a member of Mt. Carmel Lodge No. 133 in Warrenton.
He was an active member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by May 21, 1996 by his beloved wife of 47 years, Helen Scott Minter Combs.
He is survived by a daughter, Helene Combs Dreiling, a son-in-law, John W. Dreiling and three grandchildren, Marshall, Joanna and Warren Dreiling, all of Roanoke; two sisters, Dora Lynn Fleenor of Charlotte, N.C., and Nell C. Clark of Abingdon and by a large extended family.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 24, at 11 a.m. at Moser Funeral Home Chapel, by the Rev. Barbara J. Minter.
Interment will be in the Orlean Cemetery, Orlean.
